Built for the Dance Studio.
Backed by Evidence.
A professional development system that gives dance educators the tools, frameworks and training to deliver evidence-based practice — consistently, confidently, in every class.
What Is Transforming Teams?
Most dance educators are deeply committed to their students’ progress — but professional development in the industry has historically focused on choreography and performance, not the science of how dancers’ bodies actually work.
Transforming Teams closes that gap. It’s a professional development system that helps dance educators assess, prescribe, implement and progress evidence-based training inside the studio.
Most dance training programs teach exercises.
Transforming Teams teaches educators how to think.
Built from over 20 years of studio ownership and grounded in sports science and exercise physiology — this system provides practical tools, assessment frameworks and evidence-based training strategies that can be implemented immediately inside any studio environment.
— The Transforming Teams MissionUse evidence-based tools to identify movement capacity, strength gaps and injury risk — before prescribing anything.
Select and sequence training interventions based on what your students actually need — not generic templates.
Apply the right cues, progressions and loading strategies to make evidence-based training work inside your real studio.
Track outcomes, adapt programming over time and build a culture of evidence-led teaching across your whole studio.
Real Educators. Real Studios. Real Results.
Transforming Teams has been delivered to dance educators across Australia — through immersive in-studio workshops and a self-paced online library. Here’s what that looks like in practice.

Science Behind the Art of Dance.
Every decision in the Transforming Teams system is grounded in biomechanics, exercise physiology and evidence-based practice. These are the principles that drive every module, every resource and every workshop.
Assess Before Prescribing
Identify the cause before choosing the solution. Conditioning without assessment is guesswork.
Strength Supports Flexibility
Strength often unlocks flexibility. Training one without the other creates instability and injury risk.
Stability Before Mobility
Control comes before greater range. Rushing mobility training without stability creates injury, not gains.
Build Dancers, Not Just Skills
Strong foundations create better performance. Skill without physical capacity will always hit a ceiling.
Function Before Flexibility
Range only matters if dancers can control and use it. Function always comes before flexibility in the TT system.
Dynamic Before Static
Prepare the body for movement, recover afterwards. The evidence on warm-up sequencing is clear.
Progression Over Intensity
Long-term results come from smart progression, not harder training. Adapt the load; don’t just increase it.
Empower Through Knowledge
Understanding the “why” creates confident teachers. Knowledge builds consistency across an entire teaching team.
Smarter Training. Stronger Dancers. Happier Teams.
Melissa Sgro
Founder & Lead EducatorMelissa created Transforming Teams after more than 20 years as a studio owner — and growing frustration at the gap between what dance educators were expected to deliver and the tools they were given to do it.
Teachers were expected to coach flexibility, strength, conditioning, injury prevention and performance enhancement without a clear understanding of the science behind any of it. Transforming Teams was built to bridge that gap.
With formal qualifications in biomechanics and sports science, Melissa developed a system that doesn’t ask educators to choose between artistry and evidence — it brings both together, inside the studio environment they already work in.
The result is a professional development system shaped by real studios, real teachers and real students across Australia. The goal has always been the same: give educators the tools to make confident decisions and create better outcomes for their dancers.
